A Gatsby Housing Report
I lost my shit tonight. Over work. I know its never good to lose your shit over work. But I did. It's been awhile, so I guess I give myself a pass.
This week has been spent strategically writing two offers for two different well qualified clients for $80,000 over the listing price, and waiving their inspection contingencies. Also, I have strep throat. So I'm negotiating this shit with strep throat. Might be why I lost my shit. Nah, why I really lost my shit is because I had to throw seeing the Great Gatsby into the mix. Ahhhh.. the "Roaring Twenties"... stocks were up, progressive thinking was bringing on new ideas, alcohol was cheap, women were getting looser. Should be great right?
(Spoiler alert, although you probably already know if you went to highschool and read your required reading).
The HAVES win in the end. And the HAVE NOTS do not.
The well intentioned, hard working folks lose out in the end, by measurement of America's standards. And I'm seeing this happen. In real life.
To literally be experiencing how one fights and still becomes lower-middle class, again - just by measurement of America's standards - is a super frustrating, real life out of body experience to have. Who are these faceless people who are buying up these properties, all cash? I want to know. I want to know who it is who is making it impossible for honest, hard working individuals to get shelter that they can invest in, and call their own, and not worry about rent raises, and landlord control and being kicked out of their homes?
What will the future hold if this is really how our "recovering economy" is going to go down in the books? What is the profile of the future American?
No one wants to be this guy....
But can you REALLY sleep at night being this guy?
